What is CarCast®?

CarCast® is a great way of getting results for your used car searches. Utilising RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds as the underlying technology, your computer can quickly check, as often as once an hour, for cars that have been added to the CarCast® website which match your search criteria.

If you’ve ever downloaded a podcast or subscribed to a weblog, or if you understand what a feed reader is, you’re already half way to understanding how CarCast® can make searching for and finding your next car a whole lot easier.

How do I use the CarCast® feeds?

Look out for the orange feed icons and the CarCast® links on every search page or, using your browser or browser toolbar, watch out for indication that a feed exists on the page - most browsers and toolbars will alert you to their presence.

How feeds show in different browsers - left-to-right: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla Firefox 2, Apple Safari 2

Most browsers now use the orange feed icon, highlighted in both the Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers above - Apple Safari chooses to use a blue RSS icon in the address bar - all three perform the same action, however, which is to display the feed along with further instructions on what you can do with them. You can also click the feed icon shown at the top of each page of search results:

The feed icon links directly to the CarCast® feed for that particular search - your web browser will load the feed and, depending on what you have installed and the action you wish to take, your browser will help you through the next stages.

What else do I need?

To use CarCast® feeds, you need an application, a device or a web browser that understands how to use RSS feeds and let you know when new content is available. Many mobile phones now ship with RSS readers built in, so you can also stay up to date with your CarCast® feeds whilst on the move.

Alternatively, instead of using a computer or device-based reader, you can choose to use an online feed aggregator, such as one of the readers listed below:

Browsers that support RSS and CarCast® feeds include:

Web-based Feed Readers

These are feed readers you visit on the web and which you can use at any computer, regardless of your location:

At time of writing, all of the web-based feed readers listed above offer a free service.

Computer-based Feed Readers

These are feed readers you must download and install on your computer:
